Product Description

Supplied in precision-ground stock sizes. Exhibits a low dimensional movement during hardening. Suitable for a wide variety of cold work tooling & other applications where a combination of reasonable life & cost is involved. Decarburisation-free in the fully annealed condition with a hardness of 229 HB maximum. TOLERANCES: ImperialMetric. Thickness+0.001"+0.050 mm. -0.000"-0.000 mm. Width+0.05"+0.20 mm. -0.00"-0.00 mm. HEAT TREATMENT. Hardening -. Heat uniformly to 780/820C depending on bulk. Equalise at temperature, then oil quench to hand warmth. Temper immediately. The 'interrupted quench' method of hardening is recommended as a means of minimising the possibility of stress cracking or excessive distortion developing during oil quenching. This involves quenching from the standard hardening temperature into a salt bath held at 180/200C, equalising at this temperature, & then air cooling to room temperature. After boiling off the adherent salt, tempering is carried out in the normal way. Tempering -. Temper as soon as possible after hardening, allowing at least 11/2 hours at temperature. In practice, tempering is normally carried out in the range 150-220C. Applications. Gauges. Blanking & forming dies. Guide plates. Cams. Templates. Shear blades. Punches. Slitting cutters. Press tools. Machine wear parts etc. Further processing of this material could lead to exposure to substances, which may present a health hazard. Therefore effective, local dust / fume extraction must be used. All Ground Flat Stock is 18" in length.

HEAT TREATMENT

Hardening -

Heat uniformly to 780/820C depending on bulk. Equalise at temperature, then oil quench to hand warmth. Temper immediately.

The ''interrupted quench'' method of hardening is recommended as a means of minimising the possibility of stress cracking or excessive distortion developing during oil quenching.

This involves quenching from the standard hardening temperature into a salt bath held at 180/200C, equalising at this temperature, & then air cooling to room temperature.

After boiling off the adherent salt, tempering is carried out in the normal way.

Tempering -

Temper as soon as possible after hardening, allowing at least 11/2 hours at temperature.

In practice, tempering is normally carried out in the range 150-220C.

Applications

  • Gauges
  • Blanking & forming dies
  • Guide plates
  • Cams
  • Templates
  • Shear blades
  • Punches
  • Slitting cutters
  • Press tools
  • Machine wear parts etc.

Further processing of this material could lead to exposure to substances, which may present a health hazard.

Therefore effective, local dust / fume extraction must be used.

All Ground Flat Stock is 18" in length.
